Little Cambridge

CA$12.00

It’s been years since I had knit a vest but something happened this fall and now I can’t stop making them! They’re the perfect gift, no sleeves! I designed this super simple vest to easily layer over absolutely anything in your child’s wardrobe. It adds warmth and style for miles. Bonus! Vests tend to fit forever because there are no sleeves to become too short! Happy stitching!

Sizes
45.5 (51, 56, 61, 66, 71) cm / 18 (20, 22, 24, 26, 28)” chest circumference.
Approximately child sizes: 0-6 mo (6-12 mo, 1-2 yrs, 2-4
yrs, 4-6 yrs, 6-8 yrs).

A note about kids sizing:** Keep in mind, children vary wildly in size and the size by age system is just a guideline - my tiny 6 yo is wearing the size 2-4 yrs in the pattern photos. The length is easily adjustable.

Gauge
20 stitches and 26 rows = 10 cm / 4” square in stockinette stitch on larger needle, knit in the round, measured after blocking.

Recommended Needles
US #7 / 4.5 mm and US #4 / 3.5 mm
for sizes 18” - 22”: 16” circulars and in each size.
for sizes 24” - 28”: 16” circulars in smaller size, 16” or 24” circulars, in larger size.
Or size needed to obtain gauge.

Yarn
Sample shown in TFA PureWash Worsted (113 g = 187 m / 205 yds).

Approximately 146 (165, 201, 247, 311, 366) m / 160 (180, 220, 270, 340, 400) yds.

I chose to knit my sample using lots of leftover odds and ends from other projects and striping them together (alternating colours every row for about 8 rows for every transition) to achieved a gradient effect.

Additional Tools and Materials
Tapestry needle, waste yarn or stitch holder, 2 stitch markers.

Pattern also available on Ravelry.

It's been over two years since I published my very first sweater pattern, I Heart Aran. That design, the one that got me passionate about designing my own knits, is still one of my most popular patterns. How to improve upon a classic? Cardigan-ize it! Pullovers are great, but nothing beats a cozy cardigan. My I Heart Cardigans design borrows the same classic look from I Heart Aran; a shawl collar and set in sleeves, but with switched up cables and a generous button band. If you like aran sweaters, you'll love this aran cardigan!
