As a teenager I was a major drugstore cosmetics junkie. I specialized specifically in bright coloured eye shadows, lip glosses and nail polishes. I've sort of outgrown that phase, it's now possible for me to walk in and out of a drugstore having only bought toothpaste and face wash. Maybe I've just learnt to avoid the shiny, colourful cosmetics aisles, because Lord knows I'm still drawn to shiny, pretty things!
Over the years I've proven to be steadfastly fickle in my approach to nail polish styles. Part of me thinks that because I'm a lady the prettiest and most appropriate nail look for me is a soft pink - a natural and beautiful look. I feel put together and classy when I wear my nails like that. But then there's another part of me who likes to think of myself as young and edgy, which is why I've never gotten rid of my bolder nail polish options. I can never decide what colour to paint my nails because I have amassed so many options over the years and picking a favourite is just too impossible.
I actually don't paint my nails as often as I'm making it out to seem. Between baby wrangling and knitting I rarely find that I have a 15 minute block of hands free time. If I do have 15 minutes, I usually prefer to spend it knitting. Every once in a while though I decide to get fancy. On those occasions a quick-dry top coat helps immensely! I use this one (Essie Good-to-go top coat) and it's really amazing.
This week I decided to paint my nails and was trying to narrow down my options to my favourite blue when I realized that I have a pretty good assortment of blues to choose from. Because it would have been irresponsible not to, I opted for a gradient look, 1 nail in each of the 10 shades of blue that I own (yikes!) and voila! I love it. I was worried that it would make me feel juvenile but it actually makes me feel cool. I'll take any help I can get to feel cool these days. Since I became a mom and turned 30 I feel like I'm going downhill fast when it comes to being young and hip... if ombré nails help to trick me into feeling 21 again, I'll take it!
If you're curious about any of the nail polish colours I'll answer any specifics in the comments. Most are probably discontinued as many of them are pretty dated... The shawl in the bottom photo is almost an FO, so all the details on that gorgeous knit will be revealed soon!
Happy Friday!!! Paint your nails a bright colour, (or 10!) you won't regret it!
