I knit this hat in the post holiday season as a little treat for myself. The pattern is absolutely gorgeous and very well written. I fell hard for those lovely cables.

The thing is… I didn’t bother swatching and in the end the hat was too big. I was aiming for slouch, but I have a small head and the combination of firm fabric made by the cables and my tiny noggin just didn’t result in the cool, slouchy hat I had in mind.

So… I ripped back to before the crown shaping and added an inch and a half of ribbing and BOOM! I’ve got a gorgeous cowl!

Also, Rowan painted that beautiful blue mug for me last year. He was just a baby, less than 2 years old. I love it and use it but live in fear that I'll break it!

We got a new light fixture for above our dining room table over the weekend and it's my new favourite thing in the house. We've been living in this house for almost 6 years now and it's very close to feeling done. I'm proud of our little nest.

Lastly... today is my birthday! I'm 32 years old today. Chris let me sleep in an extra hour and made a card for me with the boys. Mom is babysitting tomorrow night so Chris and I can go out for a nice dinner.
